One way to prepare for financial independence is to get your important papers organized. Family financial conditions change from year to year and experts advise an annual evaluation of your family records and financial situation so progress can be noted and problems solved. This annual review is especially important as you approach retirement age.

You may want to include the items listed in your annual review, or you may want to add other items. Use the line provided to note the location of the papers as you discuss each one. Also make any additional notes you feel will help you next year. New Year's Day is a good day to start -- and you'll have a head start on your taxes. File this copy with your important papers.

Keeping track of the volumes of information generated about yourself and your family is one of life's challenges. It is within your power to take control of the paper avalanche and provide peace of mind, not worry, for yourself and your loved ones. Why not start today?
