What to do

Find a newspaper article or advertisement that features and older person and answer the questions.

1. How does the clipping or ad show older people?

2. Do you think the clipping or ad is a fair way to show older people? What would make it better?

How did you feel after reading your article or picking your advertisement?

What was the important message in your article or advertisement?

How did this activity help you in learning more about older people?

Next, you will investigate the concepts of old, older, and oldest. A 65-year-old and a 95-year-old are as different from one another as a 25-year-old is from a 55-year-old. However, people over the age of 65 sometimes just get grouped together as being "old," without taking into account that "old age" is a very long timespan.

Read "How Old Is Old?" The activities that follow will help you understand the stages of aging. You will also have the opportunities to visit with older friends and learn new things about them.
