Hosta
Hosta plantaginea

Hosta offers an endless variety of foliage color and texture. Hosta is a dependable perennial needing little care. Hosta grows best in rich, well-drained soil with uniform moisture and light shade. Some species may tolerate full sun as long as there is ample moisture available. But even under these conditions the appearance may not be the best. As a rule of thumb, yellow-leaved and variegated forms need protection from direct sun while blue forms require partial shade. Hosta range in height from 10 inches to three feet and flower mid to late summer. Allowing hosta to dry out is the quickest way to ruin a planting causing the leaves to develop papery brown margins.
