False Spirea
Astilbe sp.

Astilbe is a summer flowering perennial that prefers full to partial shade. The most important requirement for good performance is adequate moisture. Fertile, moist soil will produce both the best foliage and best bloom quality. The absence of moisture will result in plants with brown leaves and short garden life. Astilbe cultivars range in height from 8 – 40 inches tall. Foliage color ranges from a rich coppery color to dark green. Too much moisture in the winter can lead to losses. Cultivars to look for include 'Deutschland', 'Rheinland', 'Fanal' and 'Etna'.
