Balloon Flower
Platycodon grandiflorus

Balloon flower is an adaptable perennial that grows well in sun to partial shade in well-drained soils that maintain uniform moisture. Balloon flower grows 18-24" tall and produces flowers resembling balloons before opening to star-like blooms. Flowering occurs in mid summer. Balloon flower is slow to emerge in the spring so care is needed to prevent accidentally digging it up. Likes to be left undisturbed. Cultivars to look for include 'Double Blue', 'Fuji Pink' and 'Mariesii'.
