Little Bluestem
Andropogon scoparius

Zone: 4-9

Height: Big Bluestem 4-6 feet
Little Bluestem 2-3 feet

Bluestem is an upright, open to arching perennial with short rhizomes. It naturalizes and spreads to cover an area very quickly. Bluestem usually blooms in August and September and has a light brown to bronze fall color that stays into the winter. It is used as a background plant, in mass planting and in naturalized plantings. Although it performs best in moist, well-drained soil in full sun, its deep root system enables it to survive in hot, dry sites after establishment.
