Multi-county Leader Forum
Cloverbud leaders in the Northeast Region and DeKalb County are
invited to the 2002 4-H
The Power of YOUth Leader Forum to
be held Saturday, April 13, 2002 at the DeKalb County Farm Bureau
Center for Agriculture. The building is located at 1350 W. Prairie
Dr. in Sycamore. The cost is $10.00 for morning snacks, lunch, and
educational materials. The deadline is April 1. The registration
form is attached to this newsletter. If you need reasonable accommodation
to participate in this program, please contact Sheri Seibold at
708-720-7520.
A separate Cloverbud track will be offered during the day. In the
first two time slots, there will be a general Cloverbud Orientation
held for all new Cloverbud volunteers. This session will include
philosophy and objectives, child development, volunteer management,
program management and curriculum. In the third time slot, a variety
of people will share information about county and regional Cloverbud
events such as project days, day camps, and Cloverbuds at the fair.
In the final time slot, there will be a session to introduce the
new Level II Cloverbud curriculum as well as the support kits for
loan to volunteers in some of our counties.
Four other sessions will be offered at each time slot. For a complete
promotional flyer, please contact your local Extension office.
Cloverbud Kits Funded
Four counties in the Northeast Region (DeKalb, DuPage, Kane and
Kankakee) successfully wrote a grant to the Illinois 4-H Foundation
to fund the creation of Cloverbud support kits for the new Level
II curriculum from The Ohio State University. The new curriculum
includes the same eight curriculum categories but has 3-4 new topics
within each category. The support kits will include non-consumable
supplies and books related to the topics in the curriculum. The
kits will be available on a loan basis from the local Extension
office in the late spring. McHenry County already has similar kits
available for the Level II materials.
Incredible Egg Chicken Embryology
Many Extension Units in the Northeast Region offer training on
incubation and embryology for teachers in grades 2 8. Training
dates are in March of 2002. If you are interested in doing embryology
with your Cloverbud group, check with your local office about availability
in your area. The new Level II curriculum has a whole segment on
chicken embryology. It includes supplemental ideas for incorporating
embryology into a variety of subject areas.
