In the Midwest, winter often brings heavy snowfall and very cold
temperatures. Heavy snow can block roads and cause power lines to
fall down. Temperatures can be dangerous if you are not dressed
correctly. The word search above contains many weather terms that
you may hear on the news or weather reports during the winter months.
The terms are defined in the web site listed below.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency of the U.S. Federal Government
maintains a web site for kids - www.fema.gov/kids. Check out the
web site to learn more about Winter Storms. You can even download
a children's book called The Twin's Blizzard Story that helps families
learn what to do during a winter storm and how to be ready. Or you
may order a free copy of the book by calling 1-800-480-2520.
The FEMA web site also contains a winter storm disaster math quiz,
typical winter weather by region, information on winter driving,
and a snowman winter preparedness game.
