Animals in Illinois Today

Illinois has several ecosystems—prairie, wetlands, forest, lakes, streams, agricultural land, and urban areas. While many plants and animals can be found in several ecosystems, there are some that can only be found in one particular environment.

Pick an ecosystem to study. Do research to find out where this ecosystem is located in the state. Describe how the ecosystem has changed in Illinois over the last one hundred years - has the overall area increased or decreased? Report on the types of plants and animals that can be found in the ecosystem.
