“Feeding for Showing” Thursday, March 11,
2004, 6:30—8:30pm
Kevin Kline, Ph. D, Equine Specialist, University of Illinois
Extension will present practical methods for achieving desirable
body condition in horses of all ages for showing, racing and sale
preparation while avoiding health problems sometimes associated
with high concentrate diets. The program will be at the McHenry
Community College, Crystal Lake, IL. The registration deadline

“Horse Boarding 101” Thursday, April 8, 2004,
6:30 - 8:30pm
Have questions about boarding your horse? Not sure about your
legal rights and responsibilities as a horse owner versus rights
and responsibilities of the stable owner? Get all of your questions
answered from experts who have had years of experience in this
area. Presenters will be Gail Haskins, Equine Attorney and Deneen
Smith & Frank Calzavara, Horse Owners, Trainers and Boarders.
This workshop will be help at the Kenosha County Center, 19600

“Pasture Walk for Horses,” Saturday, May
15, 2004, 10 a.m.—Noon
Prairie Crossing Stable began rotationally grazing two herds of
horses on 16 acres five years ago. Their pasture management has
allowed them to substantially lower their hay costs. Ellen Phillips,
Crops Educator, University of Illinois Extension will lead the
Pasture Walk where we will identity pasture forages and weeds
as well as look at their fencing and watering systems. Program
will run rain or shine. The registration deadline is May 7. The
pasture walk will be held at Prairie Crossing, 32400 Harris Road,

A seminar on meat goat production will be held April 20 at the
Vermilion County 4-H Fairgrounds in Cayuga, Indiana co-sponsored
by University of Illinois Extension and Purdue University Extension.
The seminar begins at 5:30 p.m. and ends at 8:30 p.m. Topics included
on the program are: owner evaluation of meat goats, making goat-friendly
pastures, health, and marketing options. There is a $10 per person
charge for adults and $5 per 4-H member. The fee includes a meal.
Registrations are due April 13. More information and registration
